Feast of Sant'Isidoro

📍 Villacidro Town Centre

A traditional agricultural festival honoring Saint Isidore. The procession features beautifully decorated ox carts (traccas), local horse riders, and pilgrims dressed in authentic Campidano costumes. It is an amazing cultural procesion which the local square is what it is celebrated in. There are also street performances and local craft stalls.

💡 Visitor Tip: Arrive in the town center by 09:30 to find a good viewing spot. The main parade is free to watch, though buying a glass of local wine from a stall costs around €2.00 (~$2.18).

Sagra delle Ciliegie

📍 Piazza Giovanni XXIII, Villacidro

Celebrating the famous red cherries of Villacidro. The town comes alive with agricultural markets, folk dancing, and musical concerts. You can taste various cherry pies, jams, and home-brewed liqueurs. It is a key culturall highlight of the early summer season.

💡 Visitor Tip: Entry to the festival area is free. A basket of freshly harvested organic cherries costs about €4.00 (~$4.36) to €6.00 (~$6.54) depending on the size.

Sagra delle Pesche

📍 Piazza Municipio, Villacidro

This popular mid-summer food festival celebrates the sweet peach harvest of the local orchards. Farmers sell fresh peaches, and local volunteers prepare peach-infused pastries, ice creams, and desserts. Folk groups perform traditional Sardinian dances in traditional dress.

💡 Visitor Tip: The festival starts around 18:00 when the heat begins to drop. Bring small cash for the dessert stalls, where items cost €3.00 (~$3.27) to €5.00 (~$5.45).

Giuseppe Dessì Literary Prize & Cultural Week

📍 Casa Dessì, Villacidro

A prestigious cultural event dedicated to the famous local author Giuseppe Dessì. The town hosts a week-long series of book presentations, theatrical plays, and music concerts, attracting intellectuals and artists from all over Italy.

💡 Visitor Tip: Most events are hosted in the courtyard of Casa Dessì and are free, but seating is limited, so arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled time.

A sagra is a traditional food festival celebrating local agricultural products, seafood, or wine. These festivals are the heart of Sardinian village life. Visitors are treated to long tables set up in the central squares, where local volunteers serve hand-prepared regional delicacies at very affordable rates.

Solstice Nights

Astronomical alignment openings occur annually around June 20-21. These night openings feature special stargazing workshops and lectures led by local experts in prehistory.
